Timeout for Steve Kroft

February 1, 2011

“Assange is not your average journalist or publisher, and some have argued that he is not really a journalist at all. He is an anti-establishment ideologue with conspiratorial views. He believes large government institutions use secrecy to suppress the truth and he distrusts the mainstream media for playing along.”– Steve Kroft, 60 Minutes

Dear Steve,

It is not “conspiratorial” to believe that “large government institutions use secrecy to suppress the truth.” It’s a simple fact that even your most “average journalist,”– say, a 60 Minutes reporter, for instance– should take as a given. Wikileaks is doing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing.

An anti-establishment ideologue

P.S. Remember when Pat Boone called you guys “Benedict Arnold?” And do you remember Joe Darby?
